Common questions
How do I set up my conditions?
When you first open SafeBelly you'll pick your conditions — IBS, celiac disease, food allergies, prediabetes and a dozen more, from histamine intolerance to GERD — and any of the 14 allergens that apply to you. It takes about three minutes, and you can change it anytime from Profile. Every scan from then on is checked against your profile automatically.
What do YES, NO and EAT WITH CARE actually mean?
YES means we found nothing in this food that conflicts with your profile at a normal portion. NO means it contains something that does, such as a high-FODMAP group, an allergen or gluten, and we show you why and suggest safe swaps when we have them. EAT WITH CARE means it depends: safe at a smaller portion but not a larger one, or something we couldn't fully confirm. Where the amount matters, we show the answer at small, typical and large portions.
Why does SafeBelly sometimes say “check the pack”?
Because guessing isn't safe. If a product's ingredient data is incomplete or ambiguous — especially for allergens — we tell you to check the physical label rather than pretending to know. An unknown is never treated as safe.
How does the Guided Journey change my verdicts?
During elimination, verdicts are strict while your gut settles. During reintroduction, SafeBelly sets challenge doses, reminds you on challenge days, and uses the outcome you record to set your personal tolerances. In maintenance, verdicts adjust to the tolerances you've tested, within safe limits, so your answers fit you rather than a population average.
Does scanning work without signal?
Checking a new food needs a connection, because answers come from our food database. Your diary works without signal: entries queue for up to seven days offline and sync automatically when you're back online, without duplicating anything.
Can SafeBelly see my health data?
Your condition profile is encrypted on your device and in transit, and it lives on our own servers — never with third-party analytics, advertisers or data brokers. Health data is special-category data under UK/EU GDPR and we treat it that way.
How do I cancel, and what happens to my data?
Cancel anytime in your App Store subscriptions. Your subscription simply doesn't renew, and your data stays in your account: you can still export your diary or delete your account after cancelling. If you delete your account, we erase your data within 30 days.
Is SafeBelly a medical device?
No. SafeBelly is a food information app, not a medical device, and no substitute for professional medical advice. It's built to support the protocols your dietitian or doctor recommends — bring your questions about your health to them.
